You probably know him as Michael Vaughn from Alias, but tonight Michael Vartan dons a lab coat and stethoscope as part of the cast of the new TNT medical drama HawthoRNe.
Jada Pinkett Smith stars as Christina Hawthorne, a compassionate and headstrong Chief Nursing Officer heading up a group of dedicated nurses at Richmond Trinity Hospital. She’s a compassionate and passion nurse who will do anything that is in the best interests of her patients. That includes going up against Vartan’s Dr. Tom Wakefield,who serves as Chief of Surgery for the hospital.
Vartan sat down with reporters last week to talk about the new show.
Q: What made you want to be a part of HawthoRNe?
Michael: First and foremost Jada, let’s be honest. Getting an opportunity to work with her was very exciting. And also I really liked the concept of the show. I know there are a lot of medical dramas out there but this one is different in the sense that it tells the story of what goes on the hospital from the nurse’s point of view and that was just interesting and a different take on this world that I had never seen before. Jada Pinkett Smith has come to television. Smith plays Christina Hawthorne in the eponymous TNT medical drama that focuses on a group of nurses and doctors at Richmond Trinity Hospital.
The Pilot opens on the one year anniversary of the death of Christina’s husband. Still desperate to stay connected to her husband, Christina talks to his ashes each night. In the early morning, she rushes to the hospital to save an old friend of her husband, who’s suffering from cancer and tries to kill himself. Her friend survives his suicide attempt and thus begins another crazy day for the hospital’s Chief Nursing Officer.
Smith’s acting is terrific in the pilot. I admit, I haven’t watched a lot of her previous work, but she switches from funny to caring to headstrong in a heartbeat. The interaction with her character’s rebellious teenage daughter, Camille (played by Hannah Hodson), is particularly poignant The two are at odds, as Camille seems to blame her mother for her father’s death, but they still love each other and connect as a family. Her interactions with her mother-in-law, who also happens to be a member of the hospital board, are snarky. New and coming to TNT this month is Jada Pinkett Smith-starring and -produced drama, “Hawthorne“. A sneak peek is released to give a clue on how committed nurse Christina Hawthorne is to her work and how hard it is to be entangled in the personal lives of her patients.
Hawthorne is a compassionate and headstrong Chief Nursing Officer heading up a group of dedicated nurses at Richmond Trinity Hospital who spend long days and nights on the hospital’s front lines. Whether showing humanity to a homeless woman, trying to talk a suicidal cancer patient off a ledge or exposing a doctor’s near-fatal error, Hawthorne will do everything in her power to help her patients.
