Tyne Daly Says The Shoes Make The Character

Washington, DC – And the shoes just keep on coming to Tyne Daly’s dressing room at the Kennedy Center in Washington. Daly’s a firm believer that when you create a character, you start with the right pair of shoes. She did it to play Mary Beth Lacey and she’s doing to to prepare to play Maria Callas in “The Master Class.”
Daly is still trying to find the essence of the character, just about a week before opening night. But she’s experienced enough to know that an actor sometimes only masters 40 percent of a character by opening night. The rest comes once you perform the part in front of an audience.
